EOD Movie

Kathryn Bigelow, producer of K-19: The Widowmaker and other movie and television projects, is producing a movie about an Army EOD team in Baghdad, Iraq.  The movie is currently in pre-production with filming set to begin overseas in mid-summer.  A release date has not been set but we expect it to be sometime in 2008.  The purpose of the movie is to spotlight the activities of EOD technicians in the war on terror.  It is focused on a unique set of soldiers without taking a political position regarding the larger war.  It is a story of courage and character.  It is a Soldier story.  The writer has asked me to solicit input from recent OIF EOD veterans.  We are looking for several things.

1) War stories...any OIF EOD veteran that would like to share his/her experiences please contact me.  We are looking for stories regarding mission scenarios.  Our goal is to present realistic and varied scenes. There will be no discussion of TTPs.  We're looking for settings and situations.  The writer is very understanding of our need to protect TTPs.  Once I speak with EOD techs I will facilitate direct
communication with the writer as necessary.

2) We need photos, especially those of EOD soldiers in Iraq wearing the Army Combat Uniform (ACU) and PPE, carrying weapons or tools.  We also need leisure photos.  These will help the producers, director, and actors portray to EOD realistically.

3) We need photos of interior and exterior work areas, living spaces, and vehicles.  These will help create realistic sets.

Even though this is about Army EOD the producers are aware of and respectful of the effort of all four services EOD forces.  If any Sailor, Airman, or Marine EOD Tech wants to contribute feel free to contact me.  I'd like everyone to make contact through my AKO address (james.clifford1@us.army.mil).  Please refrain from contacting me on this issue through my work email.

At this point I cannot discuss any specifics about the movie.  The story line and identity of the participants is still unsettled.  As the details become firm I will update the EOD community.

Thank you.
